At Christian Family Fellowship, we operate under the belief, as Pastor Kevin Guigou puts it, that “Christianity is not a spectator sport.” So, when Pastors Tom and Sue Dill were looking at what Mary, the mother of Jesus, declared to the angel Gabriel, they didn’t just leave the words on the page.

“…Behold the handmaid of the Lord: be it unto me according to thy word.” Luke 1:38 KJV

That was Mary’s reply after she had just been informed that she was going to have a son, fathered by the ‘Holy Spirit coming upon’ her, and that this holy child would be called the Son of the Most High.

Even though she wasn’t married and had never Biblically known a man, she took the angel and Who he spoke for at their word. Mary claimed that promise.

Claim Your Promise

So, the Dills asked the congregation, “what promise can YOU make that same statement to the Lord: ‘be it unto me according to Thy Word?’”

What follows is some of the treasured promises that were mined from the Word that day. You will notice that the phrasing has been slightly altered: Pastor Sue suggested when we read the Word, that we do so by inserting ourselves into the text. After all, Hebrews tells us that the Word of God is still alive and sharp.

God is meeting my needs:

And my God shall supply all [my] need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 KJV

 God holds my head high:

“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.” Psalm 3:3 NLT

 God forgives and heals me:

“You kissed my heart with forgiveness, in spite of all I’ve done. You’ve healed me inside and out from every disease.” Psalm 103:3 TPT

 God delivers me from fear:

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4 NKJV

“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers [me].” Psalm 34:7 NKJV

God gives me a new heart:

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 NIV

God helps me heal in Jesus’s name:

“And these signs will follow [me] who believes: in [Jesus’s] name [I] will cast out demons; [I] will speak with new tongues; [I] will take up serpents; and if [I] drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt [me]; [I] will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:17-18 NKJV

God helps me rejoice in today:

“This is the day the Lord has made; [I] will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
