“Jesus is our umbrella.”
That was the word of the Lord this week from Pastor Tonia: a physical reminder that no matter who wins this election season, we as believers are still covered and protected.
God inspired King David to put it this way:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler [smaller shield used for hand-to-hand combat].” Psalms 91:1-4 NKJV
We don’t trust in man this election or this season, nor do we trust in man at any other point in our civil history. There have been and are great men and women who love their country and who give their best for its people.
But, we are all fallible. We were not meant to provide another person’s salvation or complete a hole that only God and the Lord Jesus Christ can fill.
“But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed – attested by the Law and the Prophets – that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:21-24 HCSB
Not Off the Hook Yet
Does that mean we can just sit back and let what happens, happens? Nope! For those who live in America, the country was founded by men who were striving to follow Godly principles. Citizens were expected to use their spiritual wisdom and take an active role in determining who would best represent them in government.
Pastor Tonia also shared this quote from Samuel Adams:
“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual – or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.”
Noah Webster, who wrote Webster’s Dictionary and also honored God, noted that “When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, “just men who will rule in the fear of God.” The preservation of government depends of the faithful discharge of this duty.” (both quotes pulled from Family Guardian Fellowship).
When citizens of America and citizens of heaven go to the polls, bring your holy spirit with you. Ask the Father and the Son who best to lead this country.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons [and daughters] of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”” Romans 8:14 NKJV
And if you’re not in a position or able to vote, then use the best weapon of all: PRAYER.
“…And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” Ephesians 6:17-18 NKJV
See you at the polls and the prayer watch towers!
