Imagine: you’re in a small fishing boat on a boisterous sea. The waves are crashing over the sides onto the deck. It’s dark. It’s stormy. The rain is falling down in sheets. You start to wonder if you’ll ever see the morning sky.

And where’s your fearless leader? He’s….sleeping.

Does it ever feel like that now? Drowning in a morass of waves of sickness and storm – maybe your city and state government are helping, but maybe they’re not. Maybe they’re huddled in the boat for fear with you. Maybe it feels like they’re taking a nap on the job.

But wait: the Master arises.

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” Matthew 8:26 NKJV

The Amplified Bible describes it as “a great and wonderful calm [a perfect peacefulness].”

In Isaiah 26:3, the Lord tells us that He will keep those who stay their mind in perfect peace, because they trust in Him. With David, the Lord said that even when you walk through the valley of shadow of death, you will fear no evil.

Why? Because He is with you.

Sailing with the Master

The same God who parted the Red Sea, and the same Jesus who calmed the waves, live in you. They walk with you. Even in a time of great uncertainty and fear, they have not left you.

That’s why in II Timothy 2:7, God can tell us that He has NOT given us the spirit of fear. Instead, we are filled with power, love, and a sound mind.

You can huddle in the corner of the boat, steeling for the worst – or you can trust in the Master of the Seas.

We have placed our hope in the captain of our salvation. We don’t know what the future will hold or what storms lie ahead. What we DO know is that God is still the Almighty, He has still placed Jesus on the throne, and Jesus is still calming the waves of our soul.

Philippians 4:7, And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
